How to Care for a Wooden Charcuterie Board (So It Lasts for Years)
Share
A wooden charcuterie board is meant to be used, not babied—but proper care makes all the difference.
Cleaning Your Board
- Hand wash with warm water and mild soap
- Never soak
- Never put in the dishwasher
Drying Matters
Always dry your board immediately with a towel and stand it on its edge to allow airflow.
Conditioning with Beeswax
Wood naturally dries over time. Conditioning:
- Prevents cracking and warping
- Enhances grain color
- Creates a moisture-resistant barrier
Use a food-safe beeswax conditioner once every 3–4 weeks, or whenever the board looks dull.
What to Avoid
- Dishwasher heat
- Extended water exposure
- Harsh cleaners
Can You Cut on a Charcuterie Board?
Light slicing (cheese, bread) is fine. Heavy chopping should be done on a cutting board.
Quick Care Checklist
- Wash by hand
- Dry immediately
- Condition regularly
- Store upright when possible
With simple care, your board will age beautifully and develop character over time.
