Our Story
MEET THE MAKER AND THE NAMESAKE
Quirky Pirate was born the day I realized two things: one, I wanted to make heirloom-worthy boards the right way… and two, my horse Pirate has stronger opinions about fallen trees than most humans. So we teamed up.
Our boards are as clean and pure as it gets—basically the health-food aisle of serving boards. No two pieces are ever alike. They’re sustainable, one-of-a-kind, and way healthier than the mass-produced stuff pretending to be “handcrafted.” Making them takes time, patience, and a touch of horse-inspired stubbornness…but that’s exactly what makes them special.
We personally source and harvest our lumber right here in Ohio. This hands-on start means we're not just buying wood; we're choosing exceptional logs and controlling the process from day one. Once harvested, each tree is carefully sectioned to preserve its natural, untamed live edge. Unlike factory-made boards, we embrace the tree's original shape, including its unique bark line and natural curves.
The truth is simple: no two trees are the same, so no two boards will ever be the same. Every log tells a distinct story through its unique grain patterns, color variations, natural imperfections, and the one-of-a-kind live edge shape.
By managing our own harvest, we guarantee that every Quirky Pirate board is a singular piece of natural art. You're bringing a unique slice of Ohio's landscape directly into your home.
